WWF keeps supporting Monsanto GM Soy

A braod coalition of German environmental organisations (DNR) has urged the World Wildlife Fund WWF to step out of the Round Table on Responsible Soy (RTRS). They see this round table not as a step in the right direction, but as support for a completely unsustainable model of agriculture. They point at the ever increasing use of  biocides and the devastating effect on humans, nature and bidiversity. They also highlight recent studies on the very toxic effects of the herbicide glyfosate / roundup.

"DNR cannot except that WWF protects a failed system of agriculture and secures the profits of companies like Monsanto and BP."

The letter is sent to WWF international and WWF Germany, but all other organisations that support the RTRS like  Solidaridad, IUCN, ICCO and Both Ends would be wise to step out of the ideologically bankrupt RTRS.

WWF has replied to the letter. They say they share the concerns about pesticides and would like to talk about it. They don’t react to the other arguments and say it is better to stay in the RTRS. Appearantly they want to stay with big business and by doing so are prepared to brand GM toxic soy as ‘responsible’.
